Knochers' Ultimate Playlist

This is a post that has been in the works for awhile. I decided a few months back that I should sit down and collect a playlist of my top 100 songs. This was hard. And not hard to come up with 100 but rather than to cut it down from like 554,324,309.

The ones I had an issue cutting down artist wise were my usual suspects, JT, Jay-Z, KOL, Phoenix, Jack Johnson but I tried to spread the love. Some of these songs are my favorites because of the meaning behind them and if there is, I will include it but know that most of these just get me smiling and singing along. And that if we take a road trip together someday, you are guaranteed to hear at least 40% of these on said trip.

If it's something I think you need to hear, it'll be highlighted and you can follow the link. And if you really love it, and I love you, I'll make you a mix-tape :)

So here it is, in all of it's randomness, jamminess, get you moviness....and in no particular order.

Are You That Somebody - Aaliyah (R.I.P.)

Sleepyhead - Passion Pit (thank you,Tiffanie)

Lost and Found - Phoenix

Sweet Disposition - The Temper Trap (Anika Jones and the 500 Days of Summer obsession)

If - Janet Jackson (will forever get me dancing like I think I'm Janet)

Rodeo Clowns - Jack Johnson

Such Great Heights - Postal Service (Listening for the first time with Andy and Lisa back east, it was snowing and I had never heard anything quite like it before)

Flashing Lights - Kanye West

Possibility - Lykke Li (A moving memory in my life where I laid on a bed with a boy that I liked and we closed our eyes and just listened and it was just one. of. those. moments.)

Manhattan - Kings of Leon

Get It Together - The Beastie Boys

Wonderwall - Cat Power (a beautifully haunting rendition of a classic.....thank you, Lisa G)

Is This Love - Bob Marley

Devil in Jersey City - Coheed and Cambria (I thought Justin had a high voice and then I heard Claudio)

I'm Going Down - Mary J. Blige

Bottle It Up - Sara Bareilles

Lovestoned/I Think She Knows Interlude - Justin Timberlake

Sunday Morning - Maroon 5

Stay - Coal (from the Chasing Amy soundtrack. This is from the scene where Holden and Alyssa are fighting in the parking lot and every time this song starts playing, so do the tears and I'm pretty sure Linzi and I spent some time in Reno crying to this song in our dorm room while desperately missing our boyfriends. Oh, young love)

If You Don't, Don't - Jimmy Eat World

Sour Cherry - The Kills

Us-Regina Spektor

Hey Ya - The Slow Version (and no, that's not an artist, I just Googled since I've never been able to figure it out but I think it's this guy...Bas)

Read My Mind - The Killers (actually has a Superchump past but still a great song so I won't deny it here)

Dirty Diana - Michael Jackson (R.I.P. Mikey)

Girlfriend - Phoenix

Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood - Nina Simone

Carousel - Blink-182 (Fab 4, Freshman year....sweet, sweet memories)

FutureSex/LoveSounds - Justin Timberlake

Stay With You - John Legend

Smash Your Head - GirlTalk (Chris, I will never forget when the sound of Biggie over Elton John - 1:24 - came into my life and I am forever in musical debt to you because if I could have listed everything from Night Ripper and Feed the Animals here, I would have).

Down - Camron

Flake - Jack Johnson

Dreams - Fleetwood

Son of a Preacher Man - Dusty Springfield

9 Crimes - Damien Rice (Cory. My heart continues to break for you every time I hear this song)

Toxic - Britney Spears

It's So Hard - Big Pun (LOLZ LOBO, LOLZ)

Ramalala - Roisin Murphy

P.Y.T. - Michael Jackson

Gone - Kanye West

Lazy Eye - The Silversun Pickups

Horchata - Vampire Weekend

Method Man - Wu-Tang Clan (sometimes I think this is the first name I learned to spell M-E-T-H-O-D MAN)

Feeling Good - Nina Simone

Don't Push - Sublime

Close to Me, Closer Remix - The Cure

So that's it folks, that's pretty much the playlist of my first 1/4 century on this planet.

What was that? You want an encore? Ok, well if you insist since I know a few of you are like OH NO WAIT A HOT SECOND HERE, I know Katie and there is no way she would make a playlist and not include this one....

Picture Perfect Picnic

Today in Vegas, it is 70 degrees (yet another reason why I love you, LV) so Kristin and I decided to enjoy a picnic in the park on our lunch break today. You know, since we're the couple of the year and everything. No, really, it is kind of sick how much time we've started spending together. Sorry, Frank, I promise to give your girlfriend back. Eventually.

So we left work, stopped at my place to pick up the pre-prepared basket from this morning and of course, little Gordie boy and took a trip to the park to soak up some Vitamin D.

Every day should be like this.

An Open Letter to Vegas

Dear Vegas,

Last night my heart was a little heavy but I had a friend in town, visiting from Utah, who is guaranteed good time so I put on my boots, swept on some blush and added some gloss to my lips and hit the town on a Tuesday night. And you know who else is a guaranteed good time? YOU.

When I'm feeling blue, I should remember that all it takes is a little booty-shaking music in the car and a walk-through your love child, The Hard Rock Hotel, to make me feel alive again. Especially when MAGIC is in town, it's as if all the cool kids gather in our little city for a week!

I love that it is perfectly acceptable for me to be seen walking around OUTSIDE with a margarita at ten til noon on a Sunday. Have I mentioned that I love your no-last-call policy? How about when Bookie and I used to sit at penny slots and order shots of Patron? You, Vegas, didn't judge us, in fact, you appreciated that we knew how to work the system. And your FREE CHAMPAGNE, oh how I love your free champagne. And while we are on this subject, I love that because of you I can say that I have been to Rehab, multiple times.

Friday and Saturday nights are totally overrated. If you know you, Vegas, you know that your best nights are celebrated Sunday - Thursday.

Even as a picky eater, I can appreciate your World-Class dining and try to take advantage as often as possible (especially if it involves a little place called Joe's Stone Crab). And how about your CityCenter?? SPECTACULAR. Just walking around there two weeks ago made me feel like a million bucks.

Speaking of a million bucks, thank you, Vegas, for giving me access to MILLION DOLLAR PARTIES and million dollar dance floors. And thanks to you and a little help from the BMuff and Bookie, you taught me how to dance and I've danced all over you and promise to continue to for the rest of my life.

I love that a little part of me, known as Club Monster Katie, will live forever in you. I also appreciate that CMK got to dance one last time to DJ AM before he tragically passed thanks to his residency at The Palms.

300 days out of the year, I do not mind taking Sir Gordon for a walk in the park because your weather is remarkable. In fact, today, Kristin and I are going to enjoy a picnic to soak up some Vitamin B. In the middle of February. On our lunch hour.

Your fabulous pools and your superb spas. The top-notch salon (love you, Globe) where I get my hair done that makes me feel like I'm in the middle of Soho.

I love your breathtaking views...from those of The Strip to your sunsets. I love that I can take a 20 minute drive (or 40 minutes at 25 MPH) up to Red Rock and see your view from the outside looking in. Or how about your Mount Charleston?? Some of my favorite days ever were spent on that mountain, SNOWBOARDING, IN VEGAS.

And even though sometimes I hate it, I do appreciate that you really are a small town.

You are a hop, skip and a jump away from the beach and a short plane ride away to the Rockies.

I love that you bring Pop Culture to life for me.

Your $1 beer nights at 51's games hold a special place in my heart. And how about those First Fridays? Talk about all the cool kids coming out to play! Who says you don't have culture?

I love that everyone loves you.

So, Vegas, when I eventually leave you (a girl has got to spread her wings), please know that you will forever be in my heart and will forever be the place that I am proud to call home.

Yours Truly,

Katie K.

Oh, Valentine

I wish you and yours the very best this Valentine's Day. Hallmark holiday or not, get out there and celebrate the love with a glass of champagne. Or four. And a chocolate-covered strawberry, too while you're at it. You deserve it.

XOXO from the bottom of my heart (shaped cut-outs of cheese).

CupKatie

Perk of PR: Monday morning I had an in-studio at Ch. 13 with the pastry chef of Wolfgang Puck. As we were setting up, I was constantly having to wipe the drool from my mouth over these humongous cupcakes. They reminded me of something out of Alice in Wonderland. And happiness. They reminded me of happiness.

Then something magical happened. Chef Kenny offered me one. No, actually TAKE TWO.

I posted this photo to Facebook the other day and my comments blew up with (so-called) friends telling me that if the cupcake was this large, it was no longer considered a cupcake and was just a cake.

I say....SHENANIGANS!

What's a Katie?

So Facebook is playing this little game today where you put the definition of your name, based on Urban Dictionary, as your Status Update. Curiosity got the best of me and well, it pretty much made my day. Next to the premiere of LOST tonight, that is. And Oscar nominations announced. And this. And having a killer lunch with the PR girls and their new babies! Wow. What a FANTASTIC Tuesday this has turned out to be.

Ok, so what is a Katie, you ask?

Definition #1: A happy person who is a good listener and reliable friend. Likes to party and is always there when you need her.
Ex: "Call Katie, she'll go out."

Definition #2: The name Katie is usually given to one who happens to be exceptionally well at pleasing their partner (oo la la). Katie's happen to be very good at making the opposite sex rather "turned on." One would regret not having been with a Katie.
Ex. "I want a girl like Katie, one who can turn me on and do a good f'ing job at it. mmmbaby!"

Definition #3: An absolutely gorgeous person. Someone who is so amazingly beautiful its almost physically impossible.
Ex. "That girl is so beautiful. She must be a Katie."

Definition #4 (are you puking yet? 'cause this is just too much fun for me!): A happy, friendly person who likes to be around friends and gives lots of hugs.
Ex. "She's such a Katie!"

Definition #5: The most beautiful, intelligent, wonderful girl. She is wise beyond her years. Her frienship means the world to me. She had dreams greater than anyone and I believe she can achieve them all. She's too good for the boys. If you're not her friend, you're missing out!
Ex. "There is no one who can compare to Katie."

Definition #6: A supah fly chick with a crazy life, usually enjoys parties.
Ex. "Damn! That girl is such a Katie!"

Definition #7: A common name used in America and Canada. It comes from the greek Katharos meaning 'pure". Short for several names such as Kathleen, Kathryn, Katherine, Catherine.
The first woman of record to have born the name was Saint Katherina who was put to death for her beliefs. The crusaders were evidently moved by her story because they carried news of St. Katherina back with them to Europe and began to name their daughters in her honor.

That last one kind of killed the mood but C'MON...the rest, right on the $$ :)
